Heal the Pain – Strengthen Every Step Again

Achilles Tendon Injuries – Dr. Mangal’s Speciality Clinic

Achilles tendon injuries occur when the strong band of tissue connecting the calf muscles to the heel becomes strained, inflamed, or torn. These injuries are often caused by sudden increases in physical activity, improper footwear, lack of stretching, or repetitive stress from running and jumping. Early treatment—such as rest, ice, physiotherapy, and proper support—helps prevent the injury from worsening. In severe cases, a complete tear may require surgical repair and a structured rehabilitation program

Types of Achilles Tendon Injuries

  • Achilles Tendonitis –Inflammation of the tendon caused by overuse
  • Achilles Tendinosis –A chronic condition where the tendon becomes weak or degenerated over time due to repeated stress
  • Achilles Tendon Tear –When some fibers of the tendon tear but it doesn’t completely break
  • Achilles Tendon Rupture– A full break of the tendon, often described as feeling like a “pop” at the back of the ankle
  • Insertional Achilles Tendonitis –Pain and inflammation where the tendon attaches to the heel bone

Common Symptoms

  • Pain at the back of the heel or lower calf, especially during walking, running, or climbing stairs
  • Stiffness in the morning, which gradually improves as you move
  • Swelling or tenderness along the tendon
  • Difficulty pushing off the foot or standing on tiptoe
  • Weakness in the affected leg during movement
  • Thickening of the tendon if the condition becomes chronic
