Support the Arch. Strengthen Every Step
Flat Foot (Pes Planus) – Dr. Mangal’s Speciality Clinic
Flat Foot, also called Pes Planus, is a condition where the foot’s arch is low or completely collapsed, causing the entire sole to touch the ground when standing. It can occur in both children and adults and may be flexible (arch appears when sitting) or rigid (arch always flat). Flat feet can develop due to genetics, weak foot muscles, injury, tendon dysfunction, obesity, or aging. Treatment may include supportive footwear, customized insoles, physiotherapy, strengthening exercises, or in severe cases, corrective surgery.
Types of Flat Foot We Treat
- Flexible Flat Foot –Arch appears when sitting or standing on toes but disappears when standing normally
- Rigid Flat Foot – The arch is always flat, even when not bearing weight and Usually more painful and may indicate structural problems or arthritis
- Adult-Acquired Flat Foot –Develops in adults due to weakening or tearing of the posterior tibial tendon and Causes arch collapse over time
- Congenital Flat Foot – Present from birth due to abnormal bone or joint development
- Neuromuscular Flat Foot –Caused by neurological or muscle disorders that affect foot posture
